How USENET plays important role in the history of the Internet?
Noticed as one of the first encounters on the internet, Usenet has been running for over 30 years, starting out in 1979. It’s considered to be one of the most popular platforms for downloading media files, as well as any other type of file and is also one of the first worldwide electronic discussion networks to ever exist. The creators were two graduate students from Duke, Jim Ellis and Tom Truscott.
These two young individuals created Usenet as a program that allowed users from all around the world to exchange files and messages in an efficient way that wasn’t done on any other existing platform, on the internet, at the time. After introducing the network to the public and internet, it soon became very successful and ended up having more than 120,000 newsgroups that were dedicated to everything from computer programming, software and any other topic you could think of.
